"This island, nestled between Europe, Asia and Africa, was destined by its geographical location to become a bridge between these three continents. This is why Crete was the first land in Europe to receive the light of civilisation from the East. Two thousand years before the Hellenic miracle, a mysterious civilization, the so-called Aegean civilization, blossomed in Crete, still muted but vibrating with life, intoxicating with colours, with finesse and tastefulness, leaving you amazed and awed. It is in vain that we defy the traces of the past. This radiance of past times is extremely intense in Crete. It runs through you the moment you set foot on Cretan soil."
